Dear Colleagues,

The European Society of Pathology (ESP) wishes to recognize outstanding works being published by young investigators in the Official Journal of the Society (Virchows Archiv).

ESP is pleased to announce the launch of an annual “Virchows Archiv Best Paper Award for Young Investigators”. The winning paper/investigator will be selected after evaluation by the Journal Award Committee, chaired by the Editor-In-Chief of Virchows Archiv.

Eligibility for the Award

All papers published in the Virchows Archiv in the previous calendar year (1 January 2023 - 31 December 2023)
≤35-year-old by the date of submission
Type of paper: Original Article
Authorship: First author
External and self-nominations are permitted

Application process:

Eligible applicants can apply via email to Dr Christos Poulios, ESP Education manager, at admin@esp-pathology.org with email subject “VIAR Young Investigator award”.
Required items for applying:
- the DOI link of the paper
- a signed statement from all paper authors that confirms their consent for the award application
- a copy of passport/ID

Technical excellence
Innovation & significance to the research field
Clarity of presentation

Award Form
The award includes a certificate, a monetary prize (EUR 500) plus an ESP membership for one year, including free access to the online version of the Virchows Archiv.
The winner will be announced during the Annual European Congress of Pathology (ECP) in September and on the websites of the Journal and Society.
