Welcome to the European Society of Pathology Trainee Subcommittee! Our committee has been an integral part of the Society since its establishment in 2015. Similar to the previous chair and co-chairs of the trainee subcommittee, Dr Zineb Belcaid (Netherlands) and Dr Özgür Can Eren (Turkey) will continue to strive to provide valuable support for the ESP trainees across Europe. We are excited to announce that Živa Ledinek (Slovenia), Szintia Almási (Hungary), Tristan Lerbs (Germany), Lisa Vermij (Netherlands), Elisabetta Maffei (Italy), Sofia Neves (Portugal) and Sandrine Nugteren (UK) are part of the team.
Our vision for the Trainee Subcommittee is to support the professional development of Pathology Trainees through our ongoing initiatives. We aim to spotlight key topics shaping the future of our field, such as advancements in Molecular Pathology, the growing role of Artificial Intelligence, and the need for sustainable practices in Green Pathology. We are also dedicated to helping young Pathologists succeed in their research journeys. Advocating for trainees is at the heart of our mission—because together, we can rise above challenges and grow through collaboration.
Furthermore, our goal is to increase active participation of trainees to all ESP events including EScoP courses, ESP academy, and the Annual European Congress of Pathology (ECP). For the ECP2025 in Vienna, we are working on the trainee session, the joint session and of course the trainee social event! Mark your calendar and stay tuned for future updates!
The ESP Trainee Subcommittee was formed on 23rd of May 2015 at the ESP office in Brussels. The session was chaired by the ESP President Prof. Han Van Krieken.
The policy of the ESP Council and Officers of the Executive Committee has progressively increased emphasis on involving young residents and trainees in pathology in the active work of the Society. This is why a new Trainee Subcommittee was created as part of the ESP.
Bylaws of the Committee:
The Chair of the Trainee Subcommittee is appointed by the President in consultation with the Council and the Advisory Board.
