The ESP Foundation

The purpose of the ESP Foundation is a humanitarian one, to support research, innovation, education, training and quality in pathology and diagnostic accuracy in European laboratories; this includes the implementation of biomarker testing in a high quality manner to ensure the high quality patient care.

As well as supporting initiatives and mission of the European Society of Pathology for quality in histopathology, the foundation’s activities shall include research, innovation and supporting quality initiatives for molecular pathology and the clinical implementation of diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers including the operation of high quality, voluntary, External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes for diagnostic, prognostic and predictive biomarkers.

External quality assessment (EQA) is the challenge of the effectiveness of a laboratories quality management system.

The European Society of Pathology has established EQA Schemes for various cancer types and biomarkers. More information is provided via the below links.
